summer fun

Darius is 17 months old, and HUGE. He makes his 21 month old cousin look like a refugee baby. Granted, said cousin is just tiny in general, but still.

Said hugeness means he's in size 5 diapers and you guys, how is it fair for the diaper companies to charge the SAME PRICE for a SMALLER box of diapers?!?!?! At first I was like hey, there's fewer diapers in the larger sizes, but it's the same amount of stuff, right? Wrong. The box is almost half the size of the one we get for my 2 month old, and costs exactly the same. Righteous indignation? You better believe it.

Darius also likes to strip off his wet diapers and run shrieking through the house.

All this together means I am SO ready to potty-train this kid. He knows what the potty's for, he's peed in it a couple times, and I know he has some control over his widdle because he was busily peeing on the rug one time and stopped as soon as I barked at him for it. He then finished peeing about 10 minutes later.

The kids and I are spending a week with family, starting tomorrow. When we get back I have every intention of initiating Potty Training Boot Camp, Gabbert-style. This will involve a kitchen timer, underpants, plastic underpants, and trying not to strangle my son. Because I just KNOW that for the first couple days, he'll pee himself like, 2 minutes after getting off the toilet.

However, I believe it can be done. I really want it done. If we can get this kid going in the toilet by the end of August, I will be unspeakably thrilled. It'll cut down on our diaper bill quite a lot, and it'll lessen the workload around here. This is important, since I'm also going back to school (3/4 time) in 3 weeks.

Boy howdy, but I'm ambitious.

So, this family trip. Poor Ben has to work, so he's going to be all alone with his homework for a week. The kids and I, meanwhile, will be at my aunt's house with my family, enjoying the constant presence of grandparents. Especially my dad, because Darius absolutely adores the man. He will pick Grandpa over me, and that's saying something.

And school! I'm excited! YAY! I'll be super busy, but yay! I am so impatient to get my degree already and leave school behind (more or less- teachers have to take classes still). My new college will require loads of math classes, which makes me sad, but I don't care so long as I get a degree when I'm done.

So, yay. Lots of fun stuff to look forward to. Woot!
