CHRISTMAS SHOPPING! AAARGH!

I love my husband, oh yes I do.

This doesn't take away, in any shape or form, from the fact that he's kinda nuts.

Example: last night as we were searching for a birthday present for my SIL (who unfortunately was born December 25th) Ben started freaking out over the Christmas loots we'd gotten everyone, convinced that it wasn't enough.  It's like he's afraid that unless he produces MOST AWESOME CHRISTMAS PRESENTS EVER everyone will stop liking him.

I, on the other hand, hate Christmas shopping. Running around to fifty zillion stores hunting for The Perfect Gift is both exhausting and irritating.  So having my lovely husband start going weird about presents at zero-hour was a little frustrating.  Add in the fact that Darius hadn't napped, had an epic runny nose, wanted to get into EVERY SINGLE TOY OMG TRUCKS! and I was not pleased.

Of course December was a little angel. Go figure.

I think my biggest issue with this obsessive gift-buying nonsense is that it totally ignores the Reason for the Season.  I want to spend my Christmas contemplating Nativity scenes and watching Muppet Christmas Carol, darn it, not fighting with people over bikes on Black Friday.  Christmas is about spending time with family and playing in the snow and being thoughtful, not all this (somewhat obscene) commercialism.

Next year everyone's getting mittens. Period, dot, the end.

In other news, Darius is sick.  I have the vomit-stained towels to prove it.  He woke up crying at 4am, which meant December woke up convinced it was playtime, and Ben and I got to keep them from eating each other for an hour. In the middle of the night. Yay.

I just hope he gets better quick, because I hate it when he's miserable like this. Also, it would totally ruin Christmas if he barfed in his stocking.
