For the past few days Darius has been pushing my buttons with joyous abandon. I get so overwrought over it all, and the more upset I get the worse he gets, and it's a horrible vicious cycle.
Today, for example. Darius kept trying to play with my sewing machine and the scissors. He acted like the dinner I offered him was, in fact, a smelly dead rat, and refused to eat. It came time to get ready for a Halloween party, and he and his sister screamed bloody murder the whole time I was dressing them and myself. At the (outdoor) party, he stole a plastic pumpkin and ran around with it. Then he tried to accost a scooter, and threw an almighty temper tantrum when I wouldn't let him. At that point I took the kids home, having completely wasted my and their time with this party silliness. I finally got him to eat, and them he screamed some more more I wouldn't let him steal his sister's binky. He also screamed when I put him to bed. He's asleep now, thank goodness, but great googly-moogley, child! The screaming!
Is this what people mean when they say "terrible twos"? Because his 2nd birthday is a scant 4 months away, and for the past week he has been nothing but toddler rebellion. If he keeps it up I may duct tape him to the ceiling and be done with it.
December, now, she's been about as screamy as usual. She scoots/creeps with great proficiency. She pulls herself forward with her arms, although I've noticed she's starting to get her legs involved too. She's 4.5 months old and halfway to crawling, people- it's both awesome and frightening.
I guess the relative obnoxiousness could be partially blamed on the fact that BOTH kids have a cold (argh) and have been taking it out on me. And of course there's no such thing as infant cold medicine. I'm lucky to find infant Tylenol these days. I went to Wally World one day trying to find infant meds, and nothing was rated for children under 2. It really made me cranky, since both my kids are under 2.
Now that the kids are asleep, I can kind of decompress. Except I have a school project due tomorrow and the house is a mess (again) and I need to take in a skirt....
Bleargh,
